In the past few months ARC Relocation Director, Bill Mulholland, has been interviewed for a couple articles for Realtor.com. With plenty of industry experience, he lays out quite a few relocation tips for new home buyers and transferees.
What is a Relocation Specialist?
Bill explained why contacting a relocation specialist is beneficial for any move. Specialists assist throughout the process with services such as selling your home and buy a new one, finding a moving company, packing, immigration compliance, and shipping belongings.
“Relocating can be a complicated process, and you want to find a partner who will simplify it for you by making sure your needs are met.”
He provided essential relocation tips for an international move. Be sure to do your research on moving any pets abroad:
“You’d be surprised how often a client realizes at the eleventh hour that the four-legged member of their family would not be allowed to move with them—or that their furry family member would have to sit in quarantine for a month.”
Make sure you check compatibility for things such as appliances:
“I can’t tell you how often we have clients try to pay hundreds of dollars to ship major appliances halfway across the world that won’t plug in or work with the new country’s electrical outlets.”
And possibly one of the more important things that could have financial impact:
“You could potentially end up owing income tax to your new country and to the U.S.”
In this case, Bill gave relocation tips on things to do when unpacking your move.
“Pack a bag of essential items for each person in your family so you’re not digging through boxes— and include toiletries, medicine, and clothing for the first few days.”
